The course "Religion in Films" will enable Theology students to understand better and visualize the representation of central themes of Christianity and other religions in various feature films. During the course, we will focus on how to read a film and how religious issues are represented. Even though the primary focus of the course will be Christianity, we will also examine other religions in cinema.
We will learn to understand the differences between "Jesus figure" and "Christ figure" and explore various films on themes such as the representation of priests, consecrated life, virtues, mercy, prayer life, miracles, conversion, forgiveness, human dignity, death and salvation, life choices and responsibility, war and violence, and related topics. We will also identify the challenges inherent to different historical periods and, through the specific experiences of protagonists and villains in films, analyze how they respond to these challenges. This course includes watching and analyzing films, discussing, studying literature, and keeping a personal reflection journal.
An important mandatory component of this semester's course is a 4-week English-language joint module with students from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) as part of UCU's international interuniversity cooperation with Latin America (COIL).

Після вступного історичного огляду основних філософських антропологічних концепцій, курс базуватиметься в основному на питаннях 75-83 Суми Богослов’я св. Томи Аквінського, та на філософському трактуванні свободи С. К’єркегора та К. Фабро. Курс матиме дві основні частини: спочатку, згідно з християнським світоглядом, намагатимемося дати відповідь на запитання хто така людина, зміщуючи центр уваги на її безсмертну душу, але й не забуваючи про її субстанціальну єдність з тілом; тоді як у другій частині, сконцентруємося на тому, що з екзистенційної точки зору становить її найглибшу сутність – на людській свободі. Таким чином зможемо побачити подвійний аспект таємниці людської істоти: її онтологічну та структурну залежність від Бога з одного боку, та оперативну незалежність через реалізацію її свободи, з іншого. Протягом курсу заторкнемо також проблему появи людини та точного моменту влиття душі в тіло, теми, для висвітлення яких філософія межує та конфронтується з наукою. Курс вимагатиме активного залучення студентів через підготовку презентацій та участь у студентських дебатах.

This course is designed to introduce students to the contributions of women philosophers to the philosophical discourse of the 20th century, focusing on eminent figures such as Simone Weil, Edith Stein, Simone de Beauvoir, Hannah Arendt, Susan Sontag, Martha Nussbaum, and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak.
